| COVID-19, a severe acute respiratory disease caused by a newly discovered corona virus, was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020. As in disasters, wars and epidemics throughout history, healthcare professionals are at the forefront of providing healthcare services in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. This process in which deeply affected both the health system and health professionals, the entire health community has come face to face with moral distress. Moral distress is an important ethical problem that affects healthcare services directly or indirectly, commonly experienced by healthcare professionals, and affecting the integrity of treatment and care provided. It is known that the moral distress experienced by healthcare professionals is caused by many individual and institutional factors. Nurses' perceptions of their roles, inability to define ethical problems, increased ethical sensitivity, self-doubt, not being sociable and not feeling oneself as a member of the team are among the leading individual factors. The leading institutional factors are lack of communication and cooperation between team members, different ethical perspectives of health professionals, increased workload due to lack of personnel, limited resources, lack of administrative support, inconsistency between institutions and health policies, and a negative ethical climate.
