Özet
A rangeland dominated by H. hirta near Çukurova was burned on 1 Oct., 1 Nov., 1 Dec., 1 Feb. or 1 Mar. in 1983-86 and given 0 or 40 kg N/ha. All burn dates except 1 Oct. decreased herbage yields in the 1st year after burning. H. hirta yield was decreased as burning was delayed. In the 1st year after burning, there was an increase in the proportion of H. hirta in the sward but this effect was not apparent after 3 years. N application did not affect total herbage yield or the yield and percentage of H. hirta in the sward. N decreased the percentage of legumes while increasing that of other grasses. Burning before the autumn regrowth was considered worthwhile if grazing was managed carefully.
