Effect of parental age, egg weight and shape index on hatchability traits and liveability in Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica).

Özet
This study was carried out to determine the effects of parental age, egg weight and shape index on hatchability traits and liveability in Japanese quail. Birds were in different ages were caged 1 to 1, male and female ratio. Total 2940 eggs were used in study. Those eggs were incubated in 10 different periods. Effect of sire and dam age was statistically significant on fertility, hatching performance, embryonic dead (P<0.05). Similarly effect of egg weight was also significant on previously mentioned traits (P<0.01, P<0.001). While parents' age and egg weight was significant on livability, shape index did not affect any trait (P>0.05). It was concluded that 12g and over eggs from the sires at the age of 15-18 weeks and dams in 16-20 weeks of age can be used for more reliable results in the incubation.
