Özet
This study investigates the predictors of digital political participation among Turkish youth in the context of the March 2024 elections. The primary aim is to explain how digital competence, political interest, and psychosocial factors shape young people’s intentions to engage politically online. Guided by an extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework, the study employs a large-scale youth survey (N = 468) and applies both network analysis to map the structural relationships among variables and mediation analysis to identify direct and indirect pathways. The results demonstrate that behavioral intention is the strongest predictor of digital political engagement, followed by perceived behavioral control and subjective norms. Interestingly, digital competence shows a negative direct association with political participation intentions but exerts a positive indirect influence through perceived behavioral control. These findings highlight the complex role of digital skills, social support, and self-efficacy in shaping online political behavior. The study contributes to the literature by (1) extending the TPB model through the integration of digital competence and political interest, (2) offering novel methodological insights through the use of network analysis, and (3) situating digital participation within the emerging socio-political landscape of Türkiye. These contributions not only advance theoretical debates on youth political participation but also provide practical implications for policymakers, educators, and families seeking to strengthen civic engagement in digital environments.
