Özet
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder that affects women of reproductive age. Since the incidence of metabolic problems such as insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and obesity increases in patients diagnosed with PCOS, this disease is also interpreted as the reflection of a systemic disease in the ovaries. Therefore, ghrelin hormone, whose effect on insulin levels has been shown in studies, may play a role in the etiopathogenesis of PCOS. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the rs696217 polymorphism in the GHRL gene, which encodes the ghrelin hormone, on plasma acylated ghrelin levels in Turkish patients with PCOS.
