Özet
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the thoughts and experiences about God image, religion and spirituality in individuals who commit homicide using a phenomenological approach. Material-Method: This qualitative study was conducted through face-to-face semi-structured in-depth interviews with 15 individuals living in the eastern region of Turkey, who committed homicide and served their sentences in prison. Interviews continued until data saturation was achieved. All interviews were audio recorded and then transcribed. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological analysis method. The study was conducted and reported according to the COREQ checklist. Results: In the analysis of the data, two themes (effects of crime on the individual, religion, spirituality and God image) and six sub-themes were identified. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was determined that individuals who commit crimes are affected physically, mentally and socially very negatively due to the situation they live in. In addition, it was revealed that the individuals who committed crimes believe in God, see God as the divine power and believe in fate, which is important in the Muslim religion, and try to perform their religious worship both in prison and after they are released from prison. It is thought that the introduction of religious and spiritual practices in the prison process, which is undoubtedly a difficult process, facilitates the coping process in individuals.
