Özet
As well known the local site conditions are one of the most important factors affecting ground motion. The severity and spatial distribution of ground motion are affected by geological and geotechnical conditions as well as earthquake source properties. The characteristics of ground motion at a particular site depend on many factors such as tectonics of the region, rupture mechanism, epicentral distance, the effect of the geological formations, local soil conditions, local surface and subsurface topography. Thus, the estimation of surface ground motion during earthquakes is a challenging issue in geotechnical earthquake engineering. The variation of seismic ground motion, which is influenced by both the fundamental period of the soil half-space and the periods of seismic waves in input motion, is defined as amplification. The major cause for the amplification of motion over soft sediments is the seismic waves being trapped due to the impedance contrast between sediments and the underlying bedrock. Soil amplification depends on several parameters such as incoming wave properties, dynamic characteristics of soil layers, geometrical features like surface or subsurface topography and seismic bedrock depth. In this study, one and two-dimensional dynamic analyses were performed for different bedrock acceleration records by using idealized symmetrical valley models to research the effects of geotechnical site conditions and the frequency content of strong ground motion on the site amplification. Soil classes and geotechnical properties of the soil layers in the models were selected from the Turkish Building Earthquake Code. The top layers of all …
