Özet
Developments on women and their rights have always been a core of interest for researchers. Issues including the woman rights, the women clothes as well as the activities of Turkish women throughout history have inspired many studies. The target of the revolution held in Turkey with a range of changes following the establishment of the Republic was to constitute a new and modern state that would catch up with the era. An important aspect of the referred target involved the acquisition of the right to elect and to be elected to local administrations for the women in Turkey within the Atatark's revolutionary era (1923-38). Those rights were acquired in the light of the parliamentary negotiations held on 3 April 1930. Despite several harsh debates, mockeries as well as controversies women did their best to defend their rights. This study aims to denote the discussions concerning the referred issue and to evaluate it on the basis of the Cumhuriyet, one of the the crucial newspapers of the era.
