Özet
Like all pre-Islamic Turkic tribes, the Kazakh society too gave woman a special status within society. After the conversion to Islam, the Kazakh woman lost her status in social life due to the misinterpretation of Islam and the influence of other cultures. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the educational rights of Kazakh women were infringed; young Kazakh girls were forced to marry without love, and they were left behind in all aspects of social life. Due to these reasons, the woman issue was one of the mostly brought up topics among Kazakh intellectuals at this time. In this article, I tried to analyze the thoughts of 20th-century Kazakh intellectuals concerning the problem of women's illiteracy and the issue of raising the status of women within society. © Ahmet Yesevi University Board of Trustees.
