| Özet |
| Rescue excavations took place at Kumtepe, a few kilometres northwest of Troia, in 1993, 1994 and 1995. These produced many new insights into what stratigraphy was still preserved. Here by way of summary we provide an overview of the principal findings, focussing mainly on the results of the 1994 and 1995 seasons. We have retained the division into Kumtepe IA, IB and IC which was proposed by JW Sperling in 1976 when reporting his original excavations of 1934. The four earliest levels are grouped together as Kumtepe IA1 to IA4. 14C dates place them around 5,000 cal. BC. There follows quite a long break in occupation, after which the settlement resumes again only at the end of the fourth millennium or in the early third millennium BC. From this period five building phases are preserved, Kumtepe IB1 to IB4 and IC1, some with several phases of repair. Up-cast pottery found in Kumtepe IA indicates that there were even earlier activities on the site than previously supposed. It dates to the late seventh/early sixth millennium BC. |
