Physical structure, which is one of the important indicators for the athlete to perform optimally in his/her sport; motoric characteristics such as strength, power, flexibility, speed, endurance and quickness combine with other performance elements and make positive contributions to the performance of the athlete (Barlow et al., 2014). Among these features, strength has a special importance (Muratlı et al., 2007; Sevim et al., 1996). In all sports disciplines, strength is used to improve the performance of athletes because it affects performance directly and indirectly (Aydos et al., 2004; Günay & Şıktar, 2017; Hekim & Hekim, 2015). The concept of strength is defined as the ability of a muscle or muscle group facing a resistance to resist, contract, withstand or move this resistance (Marangoz, 2022a; Özdemir, 2009). Muscular endurance along with strength is essential for athletes to maximise their performance throughout the season (Demirel & Taşkıran, 2020). The physiological tasks and functions of these muscle groups show individual differences, and muscle strength is shaped by individual loading (Bosco et al., 1999). Hand claw strength is measured to determine the strength of combat sports athletes in individual and team sports (Cronin et al., 2017; Ng & Fan, 2001). The hand, which has a complex anatomy, is one of the most important components affecting the functionality of the upper extremity (Moran, 1989; Nicolay & Walker, 2005). Hand grip strength is a reliable measurement method used in the evaluation of upper extremity performance as well as general body strength (Erdoğan et al., 2016; Keçelioğlu & Akçay, 2019).
