Özet |
People needed to pack the traded goods after the commencement of exchange between settlements in the ancient ages. Amphoras with firmly-sealed mouths were durable for marine and land transport. Amphoras were the integral part of trade since they ably preserved the spoilable goods such as processed fish, fruit, hazelnut, oil and wine. Amphoras were examined only typologically in the beginning, but the increasing number of amphorae with the same forms and varying paste structures required more information on their production sites, origins, and technology. Many archeologists and researchers have defined, classified and catalogued these forms as the most palpable economical proofs. The standard forms produced in different sizes and shapes in order to be used for trade by the ancient settlements made it possible for traders and consumers to know the origin and content of goods. Amphoras as the most significant proof of the ancient world trade were also reused for different purposes in addition to transporting wine, oil, marine products, fruits, hazelnut, etc., which were indigenous to a region or production site. |
