| Being consumed by billions, rice becomes a more common food crop than other cereals. It ranks second in harvested or cultivated areas in the world. In terms of calorific values, rice occupies the top position over other cereals. Apart from its use as human food, straw is used as animal feed or in paper and other industries. Rice is grown on a wide range of soil under different climatic conditions. Different rice production systems include irrigated wet season, irrigated dry season, rainfed low land, rainfed upland, and deepwater rice. These ecosystems can be divided into subsystems based on hydrological or soil factors. Although rice is grown in a number of ways depending upon resource availability, its quality improves by ample supply of water and other resources.
