Brucellosis Seropositivity In Human And Animal Population In Some Villages Of Van Province

Özet
Aim To evaluate of the prevalence of brucellosis among sheep, goats, cattle and their owners in villages of Van. Method Blood samples were taken from 558 humans, 336 sheep, 51 goats and 129 cattle from 5 villages in the region of Van between June 2002 and September 2002. Rose Bengal (RB) and Standard tube agglutination (STA) tests were applied to sera. Results Seropositivity for brucellosis in humans, sheep, goats and in cattle by RB were 26, 7%, 19, 6%, 21, 5% and 20, 9% and by STA were 27, 5%, 22, 9%, 21, 5% and 21, 7% respectively. These ranges obtained from this region are higher then average brucella test results in animal sera obtained randomly from different cities of Turkey. Conclusion Brucellosis struggle is below of the targeted levels in Turkey in general and especially in this region and vaccination should be continued swiftly and fastidiously.
