Özet |
A Turkish natural zeolite was collected, characterized, and then activated by hydrogen peroxide. It was employed for basic dye adsorption in aqueous solution. The natural zeolite is mainly composed of clinoptilolite, quartz and mordenite. The natural zeolite showed maximal adsorption capacity of 19.17 mg/g before and 31 mg/g after hydrogen peroxide activation for methylene blue. Kinetic studies indicated that the adsorption followed the pseudo second-order kinetics and could be described as two-stage diffusion process. The experimental data fitted very well the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and also followed the intra-particle diffusion model up to 30 min, whereas diffusion is not only the rate controlling step. The activation energy of system (Ea) was calculated as 1.87 kJ mol-1.Thermodynamic calculations showed that the adsorption is endothermic process with ΔH0 at 5.24kJ/mol for methylene blue. The results indicate that activation with hydrogen peroxide increases the adsorption capacity of zeolite for the removal of textile dyes from effluents. © Sila Science. |
