Özet
The aim of this study was to present the results of acute physiotherapy and functional orthosis in a patient with multiple finger amputations in the right hand due to an occupational accident. A 24-yearold male patient was caught in a meat grinder on his right hand before two months, and all fingers of the right hand were amputated at the level of the metacarpophalangeal joint on the same day. During surgery, only the third finger was found to be replantable. Afterwards, the 3rd finger was transferred to the 1st finger, with the idea of transferring the thumb from the foot in the future. The patient was referred to physiotherapy in the second postoperative month. Firstly, pain relief modalities and desensitization of the stump tips were applied 5 days a week for a total of 20 sessions. Afterwards, a finger made of thermoplastic was positioned instead of the fifth finger to increase the functionality of the hand. This finger was fixed at the wrist level, and as a result of synchronized work with the thumb, it was enabled to hold objects with a pincer-shaped movement. When the functional results of the patient were examined before and after physiotherapy, the Visual Analogue Scale value decreased from 10 to 2, and the Duruöz Hand Index score decreased from 90 to 80. In short, findings were obtained in the direction of improvement in the second measurement in both scores. Multiple hand injuries are frequently seen in young patients. Intraoperative decision-making, early rehabilitation, long-term followup, and a multidisciplinary approach will strengthen the process in favor of the patient in order to regain the functionality of the hand in such injuries.
