Özet
First damages of blood sucking parasites can be monitored from the hemotological parameters. Dermanyssus gallinae, widely known as the poultry red mite (PRM), is an ecto-parasite that feeds on blood. In this study we compared hematological values of chickens healthy and infested with PRM. A total of 48 white layer hens (60-week old) were used in the study. Hens were randomly divided in 2 groups as uninfested control hens and infested hens with PRM. Groups were housed in two identical rooms and each hen was kept in individual cages. Mites were collected from healthy backyard coops and hens were experimentally infested by using traps. . No significant differences were observed between groups on the beginning of the experiment. A heavy infestation was observed after 45 days, which caused high mortality. Anemia was clearly observed according to the hematological parameters of infested hens …
