| MATERIALSAND METHODSA totalof71patients (37ofthem males, and34females) whoreferredtotheDepartment ofInfectiousDiseasesintheMedicalFacultyof YuzuncuYılUniversitybetweenMarch1997 andDecember2001, withahistoryofthedisease forabout1 yearormore, diagnosed with chronic brucellosis through brucella serum agglutinationtest (SAT) andSATwithCoombs anddetectionofIgG antibodiesbySAT with 2-mercaptoethanol (2-MESAT) wereenrolledin thestudy. Thepatientswererandomlydivided intolevamisolegroup (36patients) andcontrol group (35patients). Allpatients were given rifampin600mg/day+ doxycycline200mg/dayfor6weeksasastandardclassicalcombinedtherapyforbrucellosis. Inthelevamisole group, orallevamisole80mgeveryotherday for6weekswasaddedtothetreatment. The informed consent was taken from allthe patientsinlevamisolegroupaftertheyhave beeninformedaboutthetreatmentbasedonthe decisionoftheInfectiousDiseasesAcademic Committeewhichapprovedthestudy (thedecisiondate: 18February1997, number: 7). Clinicalandlaboratorycontrolsofbothgroupswere performedonattheendof6weeks, 3months and6months. |
