Özet
With increasing environmental awareness and economic concerns in recent years, the use of organic and inexpensive additives in bitumen modification has gained importance. As a result, searching for new and natural additives has increased by intensified studies conducted in this area. In this study, the compatibility and usability of beewax, which has not been used as a modifier before in the literature, with bitumen and its effects on some physical and mechanical properties of asphalt were investigated. By using solvents of different polarities, the softener and volatile parts of beewax were extracted, and the remaining portion was modified with AC 50/70 penetration bitumen. The melting point and temperature range of the additive were determined by the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) device. FT-IR analysis was performed on base and modified bitumen with additives. According to the FT-IR analysis, it was concluded that the peaks that occur during the base bitumen and Beewax mixture are the result of the electrostatic effects of hydrocarbon overlap. Beewax was added to the base bitumen at the rates of 1%, 3%, 5%, 7%, and 9% by weight of the bitumen. Penetration, softening point, and ductility tests were applied to the base and modified bitumen to examine the effect of the modification on the asphalt binder properties. As a result of these conventional bitumen tests, it was found that the penetration values of the asphalt binder decreased. In contrast, the softening point and penetration index values increased with the proportional increase in the additive. The ductility values of base bitumen and modified bitumen with 1% and 3 …
