Özet |
The perception of mathematics a boring, unassociated with daily life and isolated lesson among students can be pointed out as one of the major obstacles to raising individuals with high mathematical literacy. However, mathematics, by its nature, has an important role in being independent in other sciences and influencing other disciplines with its feature in which individuals use throughout their live. In this context, it can be said that the mathematics will hugely contribute to the students since the use of mathematics history in mathematics education will affect students' learning with a historical view and will positively affect them in solving complex problems and logical thinking. The aim of this study is to contribute to the literature by discussing the use of the history of mathematics in mathematics education. In this article, which is a compilation, the topics are discussed under four headings respectively;(1) Historical Development of Mathematics,(2) Use of the History of Mathematics in Mathematics Education,(3) Obstacles to the Use of Mathematics History and Proposed Solutions (4) Conclusions and Recommendations. It is emphasized by different researchers in the literature that the integration of mathematics history into classes will contribute to the development of both the field knowledge of the teachers and the knowledge and skills of the teaching profession as well as the cognitive and affective development of the students. In this context, the inclusion of the history of mathematics in the curriculum is considered as great importance in terms of more qualified learning and teaching process. |
