Özet
Background: There are studies about arm exercise capacity in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) using functional tests. There is no study comparing upper extremity exercise performance in asthmatics compared to COPD patients.Aim: We aimed to compare upper extremity functional exercise capacity and activities of daily living (ADL) between asthmatics and COPD.Methods: Fourteen stable COPD patients (12F,2M) and fifteen asthmatics (14F,1M) were included. Spirometry was performed. Handgrip strength was measured with handheld dynamometer. Dyspnea perception was recorded using modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale (MMRC). Arm exercise capacity was evaluated using six-minute pegboard and ring test (6PRT).
