Özet |
Background: Work of walking (WOW) may be preferable method used for measuring functional exercise capacity. In lung diseases WOW has showed better sensitivity than 6 minute walk test. Demographic, physiological and respiratory characteristics may be related to WOW.Aim: To investigate relationship between WOW and body mass index (BMI), pulmonary functions, peripheral and respiratory muscle strength in patients with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD).Methods: Fifteen patients aged 6-12 years (8.20±2.40, 8F, 7M) were included. Pulmonary functions using spirometer, peripheral muscle strength (dominant-knee extensor, shoulder abduction, elbow flexors, hand grip) using dynamometer, respiratory muscle strength (MIP, MEP) using mouth pressure device were evaluated. WOW calculated as weightX6 minute walk test distance. Results: WOW was positively correlated with BMI (r=0.718, p=0.003), FEV1(L) (r … |
