Özet |
Büklükale is about 100 km southeast of Ankara and is situated on the western bank of the Kızılırmak river, opposite the modern village of Köprüköy, in Kırıkkale province (Fig. 1). Büklükale was a city at the narrowest point of the Kızılırmak river and was always a strategically very important place throughout history, and also one of the most important historical crossing points through the ages in Central Anatolia (Fig. 2). A Seljuk bridge (Çeşniğir Köprüsü) from the 13th century AD is preserved there (Fig. 3). Beside it, there is also the remains of a Roman bridge (cf. Garstang 1959: 2). Additionally, some holes on the rocks are visible by the river that might used for constructing a bridge in earlier times, which possibly belongs to the 2nd Millennium BC. e size of the city is about 650 m NW-SE by 500 m in SW-NE.
