Özet |
This study mainly aimed to examine the predictive power of cognitive and affective features which determined by researcher on academic success at higher education. General Ability and Undergraduate Placement Examination scores were used to measure the cognitive features of the participants. Affective features were measured in terms of the participants’ math anxiety and academic self-perception. The research group included 215 college students in undergraduate Department of Mathematics. Stratified random sampling method was used to select the participants from four different state universities. The research is a quantitative survey in relational screening model. Research questions were tested by using correlation and regression analyses. Results of the study indicated that academic self-perception and Undergraduate Placement Examination score significantly predicted the academic success. Academic self-perception and Undergraduate Placement Examination score explained 44% of the variance in academic success. However, general ability scores and math anxiety were not statistically significant at predicting the academic success. Research results are generally consistent with the findings in the literature. The results were discussed by referring to the current literature findings. |
