Özet
The aim of this study is to reveal the reasons for voluntary dropout in higher education and to propose solutions for areas open to improvement, based on the opinions of university students studying in the management information systems department. The research was carried out using a basic qualitative research design, one of the qualitative research designs. The data used in the study were determined using semi-structured interview forms developed by the researchers. The purposeful sampling technique was used in the study. The study group consists of 21 students who have made lateral transfers from the Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Management Information Systems Department, those who wanted to make a lateral transfer but could not, and those who want to make a lateral transfer. The obtained data were analyzed using content analysis. It is important to know the reasons and consequences of voluntary dropout to develop educational policies aimed at increasing the quality of higher education, using resources allocated to education more efficiently, and reducing the negative impact of school dropout. As a result of the research, it was determined that the image of the university, the opportunities it offers, individual and economic reasons, and the location of the residence are effective in students' lateral transfers.
