Özet
This study was conducted to determine the antioxidant properties of lipoic acid in guineapigs. 7,12-dimethylbenz-[a]anthracene (DMBA) was administered to guineapigs. The α-lipoic acid (a-LA) antioxidant properties against the levels of macro and trace elements in brain were analysed. 24 adult male guineapigs were randomly divided into four equal groups (control, DMBA, a-LA and DMBA+aLA). Results revealed that the level of calcium from macroelements in DMBA treated group increased (P<0.01) and decreased in DMBA+a-LA group (P<0.01) when compared with the control group. Magnesium decreased in DMBA group (P<0.01) and DMBA+a-LA group, and increased in the control group. It was observed that copper levels decreased in DMBA (P<0.01) and DMBA+a-LA groups.
