Proje Konusu It is widely debated issue in the literature that programming learning requires students to have advanced thinking skills and accordingly they would not be successful in programming. Having a negative attitude towards programming is one of the reasons that students fail in programming. The correlation among how do students learn programming and their studying approaches and their success in programming is subject which has not been explored in detail yet. In this regard, the purpose of the present study is to determine attitude of IT preservice teachers toward computer programming and their learning styles; and to investigate the correlation between. While grades of students exhibit significant difference with respect to their attitude toward programming; their genders and types of graduated high school do not. However, it was observed that vocational high school graduates were more inclined toward programming compared to students graduated from other types of high schools. Additionally, majority of IT preservice teachers prefer deep studying approach which is the most effective way of comprehension of education materials and which use the most effective learning strategy. Another study result is that there is positive correlation between approaches of preservice teachers toward deep studying and their attitude toward programming.
